Dalton, New Hampshire (September, 2017) – Building on 20 years of rally training and motorsports competition, Team O’Neil Rally School’s Motorsports division is excited to announce major changes. The team, along with driver and car owner Dave Wallingford look forward to campaigning a newly-built Ford Fiesta R5 in stage rally events across North America beginning in November 2017.
Based on the Ford Fiesta ST production vehicle, the all-wheel-drive Fiesta R5 is M-Sport’s most successful global rally car with over 100 of the cars competing around the world. The R5 platform is considered to be among the most well-designed and accomplished in rally history. The Team O’Neil Motorsport’s car is currently being built and prepared by M-Sport in the United Kingdom.
The car will be driven by Dave Wallingford and co-driven by Leanne Junnila at events across the Unites States and Mexico including WRC Mexico. Wallingford currently campaigns a Ford Fiesta R2, recent results include a podium finish in class at WRC Mexico in 2017, and a 2nd place finish is 2wd Open in the American Rally Association season standings. Wallingford is currently pursuing the 2017 Canadian Rally Championship and North American Rally Cup titles, holding the lead position in both series.
“The entire team is thrilled to be able to prepare a car of this caliber. Not only is it exciting for rally fans, it shows the health of the sport in North America,” stated Team O’Neil Rally School Owner and Founder Tim O’Neil.
The team currently plans to debut the car at the Tri-State Rally November 3-4 based in Mesquite, NV. Other events tentatively on the schedule include WRC Mexico and the full American Rally Association series in 2018.
